Railway Children Theatre

Temporary Theatre Building at Kings Cross

Atomik Architecture was approached by Argent, Google and The Railway Children Theatre Group to assist in the planning and delivery of a 994 seat theatre. A practical, functional performance space, set up under canvas tents to accommodate a return to London of the Olivier award-winning stage version of The Railway Children which had previously played on the railway tracks at Waterloo station.

The production retained the railway connection by using a site where the tent was pitched right behind King’s Cross station. A train track was installed down the middle of the tent that bisected the audience into two in a traverse arrangement to run the steam train right into the auditorium as they did at Waterloo.
