The organisation of the building activities has been determined by carefully assessing orientation, function and access. The building consists of a series of organic pebble forms orientated around a common circulation / interaction space. The Beacon is surrounded by a common building envelope unifying the building as a whole.

brief
To re-establish a RLSS boathouse with a beach-top cafe / restaurant to assist in the regeneration of a coastal village.

concept
The Chapel Beacon is a building for the community at the heart of Chapel, St Leonards village, a focus and destination throughout the year for young and old, villager and visitor alike.

The building will function on a number of levels, bringing together different, but mutually inclusive functions to foster interaction between the occupants. As well as the functional programme of the building, it is a key aim to strengthen and enhance the existing neighbourhood amenities, access and services, as well as promote new routes through the village to the site. The Chapel Beacon will visually reinforce the connection between the beach and the village centre.
