Building on the innovative spirit of Milton Keynes, the development plans for a site, focuses on increasing density and improving the public realm.

The key to successful development of the area lies in rethinking the role of the pedestrian and vehicular access in the Milton Keynes Grid.

Development for sustainable communities must seek to achieve a modal shift so that a greater proportion of trips are undertaken by public transport, walking or cycling. This also includes the allocation of pedestrian-sensitive land uses and building frontage design and the creation of meaningful public spaces within the hierarchy of the spatial structure.

While this addresses the specific conditions of the site in order to create a unique sense of place, the principles could be applied to other locations in and around Milton Keynes.
